Goals & Approach

Learn about American History:

  • Individual research on a specific, tour-related topic.

Learn responsibility and team work,  and a sense of  community:

  • Group work based on a tour site.
  • World Service Project-  usually done as small groups to raise money for The Cheshire YMCA’s International Committee to help other YMCA’s in other countries.

Learn to compromise and to share:

  • Students are put into study groups that are picked at random, they don’t get to chose their study groups. This way they develop relationships with students from other schools and don’t have a sense of going on a trip with a “bunch of strangers”.  Often times, these are students that they will be attending high school with.

Work ethic: high expectations:

  • Students will take responsibility for their actions
  • Attend all meetings – students call leaders if going to miss a meeting
  • Being a responsible and active part of the group with a positive attitude
  • Best behavior. This tour will affect future tours.
  • 1 adult leader who will go through the entire process with them and be their leader on tour.
  • Ratio is 1 adult to every 6-10 students.
  • The leaders are teachers, school administrators and parents- Many years traveling experience
