Hornet's Nest Day Camp

Day Camp
Hornet's Nest is a traditional day camp located on the Elks Camp Property near Bretwood Golf Course in Keene, NH. The camp offers a wonderful outdoor adventure in a safe atmosphere that focuses on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

"My child tried things that she would not have done on her own. The counselors were excellent. There were lots of different activities offered that kept the kids interested." - Hornets Nest Parent

" I was very impressed with the Hornets Nest being consistent with some of the same rules we try to keep at home, like keeping hands to yourself, caring, honesty, respect and responsibility." - Hornets Nest Parent

It's a great place for boys and girls to learn new skills, develop an appreciation for the world around them and to grow as individuals. Hornet's Nest is a fantastic introduction to the world of camping that the Cheshire YMCA offers.

Campers are divided by age into activity groups, each with an experienced, trained leader. Activities include swimming lessons, sports and games, arts and crafts, outdoor adventure, theater arts and camp-wide activities. All Hornets Nest activities are focused on the YMCA Character Development program.

Soar
This program is geared to the older camper who is looking for more adventure and advanced activities. SOAR is directed by two leaders who provide a variety of activities both on and off camp property. Activities include ropes course challenges (at Camp Takodah), hiking, canoeing, and all day adventures to other local areas of interest.

Buzz Kidz

A great introduction to the camp world for our youngest group of Hornets. The Buzz Kidz will have all sorts of fun making new friends! Large group games in the field, crafts projects on the porch, nature walks through the woods, and instructional swimming at Surry Dam are just some of the fun things the Buzz Kidz will be doing this summer. Led by summer camp staff and parent volunteers, the Buzz Kidz is an enjoyable and nurturing environment for these young campers.
